Set up the Shortcut

Frichie reads bank SMS through a Shortcut that runs when a message arrives. Nothing else on your phone is read. The app walks you through it the first time; to do it again, go to Settings › Help › Set up the Shortcut again.

On iOS 27

1. Add the Frichie Shortcut. Tap Add Shortcut, then Add in Shortcuts, and come back.
2. Turn on the automation. It arrives switched off. One switch in Shortcuts › Automation.

On iOS 26

1. Add the Shortcut. Tap Add Shortcut, then Add in Shortcuts, and come back.
2. Open Shortcuts and tap Automation.
3. Tap +.
4. Choose “When I get a message”.
5. Set “Message contains” to the word the app shows you (for example, AED).
6. Choose “Run Immediately”, then tap Next.
7. Choose “Share Bank SMS with Frichie”.

Check it works

Pay for something small, or forward any bank SMS to yourself — the Shortcut runs when it arrives. Send a new message each time: the same message twice is only counted once. This usually takes a few seconds.

Nothing arrived? In Shortcuts › Automation, check that the automation is on, that “Message contains” has the word the app showed you, and that Run Immediately is on.

Add transactions another way

Missed some messages, or want to add older months? Tap +:

• Paste bank SMS — paste one or more bank messages at once.
• Screenshots — choose screenshots of bank messages from Photos. Text is recognised on your iPhone.
• Statement (PDF or CSV) — choose a statement exported from your bank. Rows are read on your iPhone first. Arabic PDF statements can't be read yet: export the statement as CSV from your bank, or paste your bank messages.
• Voice — say it, for example “50 dirhams on coffee yesterday”, then check the row and add it.
• Type it — enter the amount, the shop and the day yourself.

What is sent to the AI

Your bank messages are read by an AI so you don't have to sort them. Before anything leaves your iPhone, card and account numbers are cut to the last 4 digits, and balances and available limits, codes, links, phone numbers, e-mails and names the app recognises are removed. The amount, shop and wording stay.

With each message, the names of your categories are sent so the AI can file it; these can include names you typed. Your country (a two-letter code) is also sent with each message. If a message comes from a sender that exactly matches a bank in the list built into the app, that bank's sender ID from the list is sent with it. No other sender is ever sent.

The masked message is read by Google's Gemini. If Google is unavailable or cannot read a message, Anthropic's Claude reads it instead. Neither trains on your messages. Google keeps requests for a limited period; Anthropic for up to 30 days.

When your iPhone has learned how your bank words a message, it files that message on your iPhone and sends nothing. Your iPhone checks every amount against the message before anything is filed. If it can't confirm the amount, the message waits for you.

Messages you paste and the text of screenshots, statements and imported backups are read the same way. Screenshots and statements are read on your iPhone. Only the masked text is sent to the AI, and for statements, only the rows the phone can't read or the rows you choose to send. Voice entries are turned into text on your iPhone, and you check them like a row you typed. Neither your voice nor its text is sent to the AI or to our server.

To withdraw consent, turn off Settings › AI reading & privacy › AI reading. From then on no bank message is sent; new messages are saved on your iPhone, unread, and nothing is deleted. Reading done before is not undone.

Subscription and free trial

• Free trial. Each plan starts with a 1-month free trial, once per Apple Account. It is offered after your first read and starts when you subscribe in the App Store.
• Plans. Frichie Plus is AED 29.99 a month or AED 199.99 a year. The App Store shows the price, including any VAT, before you buy.
• Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when the free trial ends.
• Cancelling. Manage or cancel in Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your iPhone. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. The trial converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled at least 24 hours before it ends.

Deleting your data doesn't cancel your subscription. The full details are in the Terms of Use.

Delete your data

Deleting the app keeps your data in your iCloud. Reinstall on any iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account and it comes back. To erase everything, use Delete my data.

Go to Settings › Delete my data, type DELETE to confirm, and keep Frichie open until deleting is done. Frichie can't undo this.

Delete my data erases:

1. everything on this iPhone — transactions, shops, budgets, saved messages;
2. your iCloud copy of Frichie data;
3. our server's record of this install — its key, counters, country and your consent record.

To prevent repeated use of the free one-time import allowance, we keep a one-way hashed code for your subscription — none of your messages, amounts or names — for up to 30 days after it ends. It can't be used to rebuild your transactions.

Your App Store subscription is not cancelled by this — manage it in Settings › your name.
